An Invitation I am sitting in the Rocking Chair of God's heart, the Upper Room, in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. Above the chair is a plaque crafted by our friend Dwayne Wood. I am sitting/standing on holy ground and there are angels all around. I am fishing for the just right way and words to invite you to join me and be a part of Jesus' forever world and family. Turn off your cell phone and leave the noise of the world behind. Come on in and just sit a while. In April of 2008 we invited friends in our community to help us place a fullpage ad into our weekly newspaper, "The Pagosa Springs Sun". It cost fourteen-hundred dollars. Everyone we approached was asked to sign their name and allow us to make it a part of the ad. We also asked them to help us pay for the ad. Some were able and did. Friend Lou Jean gave us the last fifty dollars we needed. One person said, "I'll give you fifty dollars but don't want to have my name in the ad." Another person said, "My name in the ad might be bad for business." Click on the ad for the full story. Jesus wept and so did we. It's hard to erase some memories, both the good ones and the hard ones have a way of lingering. So glad that my God is the God of second chances. He knows how to erase, how to blot out unfruitful thoughts, images and memories. It helps to ask Him. We invite you, we ask you to come alongside of us and help us put another ad into the Pagosa Springs Sun. Here is an opportunity for someone to be a light for Jesus and let others know that Jesus is the Light in our world and their delight. Let the world know that you are a traitor - that you switched sides – that you rejected the ways of the world - that you are listening to and following the beat of another drummer. It would make our day to learn that same old, same old, no longer cuts it for you. If you have not switched sides or are undecided, this may be your moment? It might be a struggle to switch sides. It is for most people. It was for us, Peter and Rebekah. We both needed help switching sides. It takes a courageous heart to trade the familiar for the unknown, to walk by faith and grace. We both asked Jesus to help us. He is still helping us. We can't make it on our own, no one can. Folks who try to make it on their own - without Jesus, without God, eventually fall flat on their face and lose the race. Go for it! Sell out to JESUS! Sell out to GOD! PRAYER OF SURRENDER (from “The Seeking Heart” by Fenelon) My God, I want to give myself to you. Give me the courage to do this. My spirit within me sighs after you. Strengthen my will. Take me. If I don't have the strength to give You everything, then draw me by the sweetness of Your love. Lord, who do I belong to, if not to You? What horror to belong to myself and to my passions! Help me to find all my happiness in You, for there is no happiness outside of You. Why am I afraid to break out of my chains? Do the things of this world mean more to me than You? Am I afraid to give myself to you? What a mistake! It is not even I who would give myself to You, but You who would give Yourself to me. Take my heart. What joy it is to be with You, to be quiet so that I might hear Your voice! Feed me and teach me out of Your depths. Oh God, You only make me love You. Why should I fear to give You everything and draw close to You? To be left to the world is more frightening than this! Your mercy can overcome any obstacle.
