De-Toxing the Soul
September 28, 2020

Jesus brought us, Peter and Rebekah to Pagosa Springs, Colorado more than forty years ago with a very unique assignment (every person has one) – to pray for a portal between heaven and earth to open above Pagosa Springs. In fact, in 2014 Peter published the reason God brought him and his wife to this beautiful mountain town and planted them at Lake Pagosa in a log cabin. Take the time to read and ponder: My Pagosa Assignment.

This is the fullness of time for us, for Peter and Rebekah and maybe for you? This is the time they have been waiting for – handing the keys to the portal to those who will receive them and make room for them on their keychain.

Thirty-three years ago God created/built a place called "The Upper Room." Many guests have tasted the presence and the reality of our Father's love and forgiveness in that secret and sacred place. Many, but not everyone met Jesus there. And why not? Some were either unwilling or unable to leave their worldly pets, like their digital toys and obligations and their four-legged companions behind. They brought them along and tried to double-date with Jesus and their worldly fascinations, obligations and priorities. But that never worked. If we would only realize the heartache, the pain this caused Jesus and Peter and Rebekah, they would weep. Yes, Jesus weeps and so do we whenever guests focus on fishing and their smart phones and put the "Big Fisherman” on the back burner or on "hold."

Until we take our very last breath, our Creator/God tries to snatch our souls out of the whirlpool of our addictions and worldly priorities. The word "addiction" leaves a horrible taste in our mouths. Believe it or not, we are all addicted or have been addicted to something or someone who spells death for our soul. This can be as innocent as making fishing, hunting or skiing our priority. Do read: Life is more than that.

Until we are willing to de-tox from our worldly life-styles, we will never know whether or not we are on a speeding train, packed with aimless passengers streaming towards an unknown void. Our mass transit systems, jumbo jets, cruise liners and tour buses do not take us to the portals of heaven. They merely shuttle us between one dead-end deathdination to the next.

If I have not lost you by now or you have not turned me off as a weirdo, read on.

Come to Pagosa Springs and check in at the Hiding Place. The address is 965 Cloud Cap Avenue. You can't miss the place. It's a large log cabin on Lake Pagosa.

We, Peter and Rebekah, will greet you and do what we can to make you feel at home. Do not bring any of your digital toys or four-legged companions. If our Upper Room guest apartment is available, we will usher you into it. If it is not, we will help you find other suitable lodging. Sleeping in a tent is an option when the weather permits. Commit to fasting the world while here. Some may need to fast the world for forty days like Jesus did. There are no hard and fast rules. Fasting our daily activities and routines in favor of seeking God's presence will de-tox our soul. Most likely we will battle Satan like Jesus did. But you may say, "There is no way I can come to Pagosa." That's OK! Maybe you are not even supposed to. Know you are always free to call or write. You can find that "Quiet Place” anywhere in the world, but must look for it. You can fast your worldly misguided and reckless obsessions anywhere. Jesus is saying to all of us, "Come out of the fast lane. Your God is never in a hurry. Slow down and you will catch up with Him."

To help you with your fast, we will give you a book and a blanket, The name of the book is "The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry" by John Mark Comer. I am summing up here what the author tried to convey: "Hurry is not of the devil; hurry is the devil." The blanket has a picture of the Lion of the tribe of Judah on it. The blanket will serve as your fortress and prayer tent. You will be smitten when you read the book. It was a game changer for me. You will come radiantly alive, filled with purpose and new vitality. You will become a bulletin board for Jesus whether you are a dishwasher, housekeeper, gardener, beautician or another Billy Graham. Wherever you go, you will be leaving Jesus tracks. Whoever follows those tracks will arrive at heaven's portal and be greeted with these words: "Well done my good and faithful servant, enter into God's rest."

Those who successfully complete their fast will be like a beacon on a hill, a portal between heaven and earth. "Successfully" means that Jesus, the Lamb of God and Jesus, the Lion of Judah occupy the front burners of our life. If He does, we will never be the same. We will never want to be the same. We will have the strength and courage to say good-bye to same-old, same-old. We will be an enigma to the world around us. We will be willing to be socially, politically and religiously incorrect. We will be a threat and a thorn in the flesh to the establishment. We will be ostracized and rejected. Those are not my words; they are Jesus' words, the Son of God and the Savior of this world.

Come to the Upper Room if you are desperate for more of the presence of God.
Come to the Upper Room if your soul is in anguish and turmoil.
Come to the Upper Room if you want Jesus to be the love of your life.
Consider creating a "Quiet Place" as your mission statement.

Peter and Rebekah

A recent guest writes:

Good Morning Peter,

I have been so blessed by the weekend in the Upper Room. This last week was my 67th birthday and I took the entire week off work to spend with Jesus. I saw friends for walks and lunch but mostly practiced "no hurry". I sense my shoulders relaxing and became more aware of the intensity of the culture we live in. My desire is to live in the Jesus Culture of peace and love as you and Rebekah do, not our "super busy" culture. I feel as if some of the back problems I have experienced recently are due to the hurry in my life.

I will probably see my friend Robbie this week and see how his mouth is healing and when he would be comfortable for a road trip to Pagosa. I know Robbie would be blessed to meet you and most likely would love to schedule Upper Room time for himself. He asked me for your website and I told him of the portal.

So grateful to be in touch with you and Rebekah again.

Love, Pat

Above the door to the Upper Room
