This story is a lot shorter than most of my stories; but in time it may grow as folks respond to it. In fact, do please respond to the story if the Holy Spirit gives you more insight. A number of friends have collaborated to make the story tangible. Rebekah’s spiritual Mother Lois gave her the book by Tozer some forty plus years ago. Our son John bought the tuning fork for us and our friend Susan scouted out a place where she could get the three miniature pianos. I know the story will be passed on. It's so simple, so basic, and so important. Together we are a team and are making music that delights the Lord and His angels.
Rebekah reads to me every morning and evening. She read the book "The Pursuit of God" by A.W. Tozer twice. A certain paragraph on page 97 of our edition jumped off of the page for me and prompted me to ask our son to find the tuning fork for us. The pianos came along a little later. Here is the paragraph that prompted me to write this story.
Has it ever occurred to you that one hundred pianos all tuned to the same fork are automatically tuned to each other? They are of one accord by being tuned, not to each other, but to another standard to which each one must individually bow. So, one hundred worshippers met together, each one looking away to Christ, are in heart nearer to each other than they could possibly be were they to become "unity" conscious and turn their eyes away from God to strive for closer fellowship.
I love demonstrating to visitors the value of being tuned to the same right tuning fork. After demonstrating the sound of the tuning fork and explaining the value of being tuned to "C," standing for Christ, I ask, "How often do you think your piano has to be tuned? And what do you think causes your piano to get out of tune? Have you ever allowed peer pressure to tune your piano and if so, do you recall when and through whom? What made you aware that it was time to give the Piano Tuner a call?" These questions can trigger some serious thoughts, questions, conversation, confessions and repentance.
I do believe that many of the famous composers had their pianos tuned by “C,” – Jesus Christ. You have just listened to the “Moonlight Sonata” composed by Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827). This famous composer was almost stone deaf during the last 10 years of his life, yet he continued to compose. During these last ten years he gave the world music that will endure for all eternity. What an awesome role model for anyone who is handicapped in some way.
God bless you. Have fun sharing this story and the music. Come see us and make music with us.
