AM I TRAPPED BY A JEZEBEL SPIRIT?
December 17, 2020

If he does not submit, he gets whipped (tongue lashed).
If he does not submit, he gets shipped out of my life.
If I am not number one, we are done.
If I am not number one, he is out o my bed and we are no longer wed.
If he does not agree with me, he is history.
If I can’t sit on the throne, I’d rather live alone.
If I want to catch another guy, I do what the spider did to the fly.

The Spider and the Fly
By Mary Howitt 1799-1888

"Will you walk into my parlor?” said the spider to the fly;
"’This the prettiest little parlor that ever you did spy.
The way into my parlor is up a winding stair,
And I have many pretty things to show when you are there.”
"O no, no, said the little fly, "to ask me is in vain,
For who goes up your winding stair can ne’er come down again.”
"I’m sure you must be weary, dear, with soaring up so high;
Will you rest upon my little bed?” said the spider to the fly.
"There are pretty curtains drawn around, the sheets are fine and thin,
And if you like to rest awhile, I’ll snugly tuck you in.”
"O no, no,” said the little fly, "for I’ve often heard it said,
They never, never wake again, who sleep upon your bed.”
Said the cunning spider to the fly, "Dear friend, what shall I do,
To prove the warm affection I’ve always felt for you?
I have within my pantry good store of all that’s nice;
I’m sure you’re very welcome; will you please to take a slice?”
"O no, no,” said the little fly, "kind sir, that cannot be;
I’ve heard what’s in your pantry, and I do not wish to see.”
"Sweet creature!” said the spider, "you’re witty and you’re wise,
How handsome are your gauzy wings, how brilliant are your eyes.”
I have a little looking-glass upon my parlor shelf.
If you’ll step in one moment, dear, you shall behold yourself.”
"I thank you, gentle sir,” she said, "for what you’re pleased to say,
And bidding you good-morning now, I’ll call another day.”
The spider turned him round about, and went into his den,
For well he knew the silly fly would soon be back again:
So he wove a subtle web, in a little corner sly,
And set his table ready to dine upon the fly.
Then he came out to his door again, and merrily did sing,
"Come hither, hither, pretty fly, with the pearl and silver wing:
Your robes are green and purple; there’s a crest upon your head;
Your eyes are like the diamond bright, but mine are dull as lead."
Alas, alas: how very soon this silly little fly,
Hearing his wily flattering words, came slowly flitting by.
With buzzing wings she hung aloft, then near and nearer drew,
Thinking only of her brilliant eyes, and green and purple hue;
Thinking only of her crested head – poor foolish thing!
Up jumped the cunning spider, and fiercely held her fast.
He dragged her up his winding stair, into his dismal den,
Within his little parlor; but she ne’er came out again!
And now, dear little children, who may this story read,
To idle, silly, flattering words, I pray you ne’er give heed;
Unto an evil counselor close heart, and ear, and eye,
And take a lesson from this tale of the Spider and the Fly.

1 King 16:30-31

30 And Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the Lord above all that were before him.

31 And it came to pass, as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took to wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Zidonians, and went and served Baal, and worshipped him.

Married or not, a woman can exercise great power and control over a man if she so chooses. If she brings strange gods or strange religious traditions into the marriage, her husband may be prone to adopt them as his own. King Solomon married the Queen of Sheba who brought her gods and religious traditions with her. King Solomon may have adopted them or added them to his own. Either way, Jehovah was very angry.

God severely punished Israel whenever its kings and queens worshipped idols, even sacrificed their babies to them. Isn’t this reminiscent of babies that are being aborted today? Jehovah is a jealous God. He is also a merciful God and forgives those who are truly sorry for violating his commandments. He sent his only Son, to make his love and mercy abundantly clear to us when Jesus was born in a manger on Christmas.

A man can be ruled by a Jezebel spirit as easily as a woman, but the Jezebel spirit seems to be more prevalent in women. A woman’s ability to seduce a man via sexual favors is common knowledge. A woman who does this, who flaunts her sexuality, who puts it on display, puts souls in jeopardy, including her own.

How can a person be delivered from a Jezebel spirit or any other foul spirit? The person has to have the courage and humility to ask God for help. Crying out for help, asking the Holy Spirit to illuminate our heart, being willing to have the darkness in us exposed, that’s what it takes. We don’t need to go to a priest, preacher or psychiatrist. We can do business with God in our bedroom, on a jumbo jet, in a Jacuzzi or homeless with a cat as our only prized possession.

Yes, love is a many splendored thing, while lust is a many splintered thing. Lust is the counterfeit version of love. Lust says: "Play now and pay later. Esau, Jacob’s twin brother, traded his birthright for a pot of porridge. Lust and looks are Jezebel’s bait, Jezebel’s ace cards. She wins sometimes. Jesus wins all the time.

Jezebels don’t reign forever. Flowers only have a brief season when they are attractive, are fragrant and attract bees. "We say to you, Jezebel spirit, you foul spirit of control, we see how you operate, you have no more power over us. We only bow our knees to the name that is above all other names, Jesus, the Christ."
